Hi Helen, my name is Sarah! I was before marriage a Redman-Hide.  My grandmother lived at Laurel Cottage she was a Redman, then she married my grandfather Charlie, who was a Hide.  When my father married my mother he joined the two together to give Redman-Hide.  My Auntie, who lives in the states, is more than willing to pass any details about Bosham on to you as she was born in Laurel Cottage.  This is an email she sent me when I relayed to her that I had seen your interest on this site.

'My mother’s sister Minnie married a Painter.  My Uncle George Redman was the smithy in Bosham as was his son also, George Redman did not marry, but my cousin John, his brother, did.  Minnie had a daughter Joyce Painter who married a Blackmore, and had a son Barry Blackmore, Joyce died young of breast cancer.  Elsie Redman (my mother) and Charlie Hide (my father) were married in Bosham church about late 20s, I was born in 32 three years later.'

As far as I am aware my grandmother Elsie, had 12 siblings.  My Auntie is happy to for you to contact her by email, but I don't want to put her email up publically.  If you could let me have your email I could pass it on to you.

Yours Sarah (Cornish)

Dear Sarah,

Please accept my apologies for taking so long to respond to your fabulous response. Shortly after I added the request for information, life took me away from my search. It is only today that I was curious to get back into it and found this thread of information.

Yours is the closest in regard to my initial knowledge of that side of my dad's family. Minnie was my great grandmother and I loved her dearly for the early years of my life before she passed. Unfortunately, I was born after Joyce passed but I knew my grandfather well. I also met great uncle George from the forge when I was very young and some of the great aunts... Elsie, Dimp? and Beat were names I remember, and perhaps one or two more.

My grandfather, Fred (Harold?) Blackmore and my dad, have both passed now. As my dad was an only child, like his mum, there has not been much information available and I'd like to resume my search. Your information is very valuable and I'd be interested to hear if you have established a family tree I can investigate.

Thank you for making the connection. I hope my tardy reply finds you well.

Warm regards,

Helen

Dear All,

Please bear with my while I get used to using this forum again. I've been away from my original appeal for information for quite some time. Life gets in the way!

I have only read your responses today after googling those three names again and this RootsChat was the top of the list!

All this information has been very illuminating and clarified a few grey areas. Please get in touch if you have anything to add. I won't be away so long this time, I hope...

Kind regards,

Helen
