French!
« on: Tuesday 04 March 14 15:00 GMT (UK) »
I'm working on some (probably Hugeunot) ancestors in Shoreditch/Bethnal Green/Spittalfields, and I've ended up in a register of French births for Stepney.

The writing is fine, but I don't understand one of the headings. It says:

"noms des parrains et marraine"

(the whole set are "noms des enfans" "Noms des Peres et Meres" "Jours de Naisans et de bateme" "Eglis ou ils ont ete batisez" "nom des ministeres" "noms des parrains et marraine")

Those all succumb to a combination of the bleedin' obvious and schoolboy French, except the last one.

Anyone know what it means?

BugBear,

If you get back to earlier, less structured register entries, you may find this link useful:

It certainly helped me with Walloon registers.

vv.

Thank you - I didn't need it yet, but a fellow can dream...
