HATHAWAY's of Tewkesbury area
« on: Monday 03 March 14 14:34 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the father of William HATHAWAY b: abt 1826.  On the 1841 census - there are 2.  One is with George & Elizabeth HATHAWAY the other with some HOLT's both aged 15 and 13.

My William married Ann GUEST at the Abbey (St Mary) on 2 Oct 1853, but I don't know who is father is.

Can anyone help?

Jenny Compton

1861 gives his place of birth as Fiddington (someone online has suggested it is Treddington)

Hi All

Thanks for your suggestions.

On the various census, his place of birth varies, but more often or not it is Tewkesbury although once he also gives it as Walton Cardiff.  His marriage to Ann GUEST came from the IGI and the GLS BMD Index - I do not have the certificate which would confirm the father's name.  Perhaps I will have to buy one.

Thanks for the baptism of William who is the son of George and Elizabeth (GEORGE) but there is also another William in Tewkesbury (1841 census) who is about the same age.

Jenny

Hi Jenny,
Walton Cardiff is just outside Tewkesbury.
If you wish, I could do a transcription of William HATHAWAY & Ann GUEST's marriage at St Mary (The Abbey), Tewkesbury? 1853 Tewkesbury 6a 868 Dec Qtr.
Glos Archives (GA) reference: P329/1 IN 1/37
This is the actual Parish Record and needs to be ordered in advance by email.

Hi Victor

That would be fantastic if you could do a transcription of their marriage.  It would certainly solve which William was which.

Many thanks, it is really appreciated.

Jenny :)

Hi Jenny,
Source: Glos Archives (GA) P329/1 IN 1/37, Entry No 150, St Mary (The Abbey), Tewkesbury, Marriage (1853 Tewkesbury 6a 868 Dec Qtr):-
10th October 1853, William HATHAWAY, 28, Widower, Labourer, Great Walk, Tewkesbury, f. George HATHAWAY, Labourer, married Ann GUEST, 21, Spinster, High Street, Tewkesbury, f. George GUEST, Labourer.
Witness: Emily (?) GUEST.
Ann GUEST died 1874 Tewkesbury 6a 269 Sep Qtr (aged 41)
William GUEST died 1891 Tewkesbury 6a 240 Sep Qtr (aged 63)
I think I have found William's 1st marriage, so I have pre-ordered the PR for next Saturday and will get back to you with a transcription.

Hi Victor

A very BIG thank you for that info.  William's 1st marriage maybe to Eliza KNIGHT as the other William is married to Sarah HARRIS and they are on the later census.  They married at The Abbey in 3rd Qtr 1850, but I also do not know who this one's father is.

Thanks again and wait in anticipation.

Jenny  :)
