Lichfield Wills Index look up please

I would like to confirm some of my ancestors via wills, but first need to know if they left a will.

A check of the Lichfield wills index would be much appreciated for the following:-

Thomas Charles - buried 1834 Abbots Bromley
Joseph Charles - buried 1767 Abbots Bromley
Thomas Charles - buried 1757 Alrewas
William Oakes - buried 1732 Abbots Bromley
Catherine Oakes - buried 1771 Abbots Bromley

Hope someone can help.

The only one I can check on-line is William Oakes, and he did leave a will

William Oakes of Bentiley, Abbots Bromley - 28 September 1733 - B/C/11

The others are all too late for the online indexes - www.staffsnameindexes.org.uk - which are available 1650 - 1750.  There are no instances of the surname Charles in Abbots Bromley prior to 1750.

Not sure when I will next be visiting Lichfield, but the staff there are very, very helpful.  I'd send them an e-mail.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

Thank you very much for this information on William Oakes. I will send Lichfield an email re the other people.

The Charles line were at Alrewas prior to 1750, then moved to Abbots Bromley.

I have had a reply from Lichfield. They have found wills in the index for 2 of the remaining people:-

Thomas Charles (buried 1834) - of Abbots Bromley, probate date 23/4/1834
Joseph Charles (buried 1767) - of Abbots Bromley, probate date 13/8/1767

They found no wills for the other 2 people.
I think this completes this post.
