Oh definitely, I'm always amazed at the wealth of records which have been saved.....but since this is a list of actual omissions by the new FindMyPast, it's quite shocking.

Or have I missed the point of Dawn's info and these records never were available?

I'm afraid you have misunderstood what Dawn said.

The list she's provided is of census pieces which are always known to have been missing.

The lists were available on the old FindMyPast site (in fact you can still see them there if you look at the old site without logging in).

The point is that these 'gaps' in the record should have been noted on the new forms and weren't.

Added  I posted this before seeing HL's Edit.

For the address listings, I knew I had a ref somewhere:

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20100115151708/http:/yourarchives.nationalarchives.gov.uk/index.php?title=Your_Archives:Historical_Streets_Project

Not sure if it is as extensive as the old FindMyPast lists but better than anything.*

*Added - only 1841-1871 - I'm sure that somewhere there are listings for the later censuses :-\

I just logged out and checked on the 'old site'. All the lists of 'known issues' (i.e. missing pieces) are still available there.

I use google chrome, and when I open a new tab (and get the page with 8 icons representing the sites I most visit), one of them is for FindMyPast, but beneath the picture are the words, 'Search Ancestry and Genea...'
so I think even google chrome is giving a hint as to where to go to find anything now  ;).

Anyway I opened FindMyPast and decided to have a look without signing in, just in case it worked better that way, going to a census search page and trying the address search, it seems that even if you have gone through the filters to get a county and entered a registration district (which it appeared to recognise), you get a filter box of street names - which don't have any connection to the district or county, but I see that there are several called, 'a caravan'.  So maybe the caravans will be found - sorry I can't remember how far back this was mentioned, but I remember reading it. :)

Conclusion - still not working.

I'm tearing my hair out.  I just cannot work out how to search the census by address.  I found their instructions in the FAQ but it doesn't work.  I just get 0 results.

I've sent them a message but don't expect a reply any time soon.  Has anyone here managed to get it to work?

I'm trying to find out who was living at 4 Brick Lane, London in 1901 and 1911.
East London:
Happe/Hoppe (St. Georges in the East)
Stanley (middle name Thurston)
Rondeau (Spitalfields and Salford)
Jones (Bishopsgate - Thomas, Ostrich Feather Manufacturer)
Wood (London City)
McDermott (Londonderry and Stepney)
Upcraft (Bethnal Green)
Chidgey (Shoredtich)
Grim (Bethnal Green)
Row (Mast makers in Wapping)
Spurden (Stepney and Pancras)
Glibbery (Bishopsgate)

I found Brick Lane, Bethnal Green on Ancestry but there didn't seem to be any small numbers, all numbers in the high hundreds and two hundreds.

That's odd.  Brick Lane is not a particularly long street. Have Anc indexed perhaps by schedule number rather than address?
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

According to the old FindMyPast (which I'm hanging on to for as long as possible) there are 3 Bricklanes:
One in Bethnal Green, one Spitalfields (Whitechapel) and one just Whitechapel. The last is the only one with a number 4 showing.
