Hi Heywood
Yes this is the Joseph I am looking for. His wife Sarah I believe was Sarah Lowe , she was married to William lowe  I believe ,  who was my great great grandfather. William died in 1861 but I can not find Joseph and Sarah's marriage anywhere . Sarah Lowe had 3 children George (great grandfather) born 1857 , Sarah b 1859 and Emma b 1861 . If I can piece this together a lot more things will fall into place.
Regards Chris42

Joseph was born in 1826 but I don't know where.

He is in Newark Notts in 1871

In case this might help details of the 1871 census

Do you know Sarah’s maiden name? Do you have her marriage certificate to William Lowe?

If not a birth certificate of one of the children with Joseph would confirm
this looks to be dau Lydia & Winifred

Lydia CONALAY Dec 1865 Newark vol 7b page 283
Winifred Ann CONALAY Sep 1872 Newark vol 7b page 327

There’s this marriage but it would be after the birth son James born c 1864 Newark  :-\

Mar 1865 Nottingingham vol 7b page 288
there’s two female names and only one male name on the same page
Joseph Stoddard
Caroline Bellinger
Sarah LOWE
