Mile End Old Town Infirmary Records
« on: Wednesday 26 February 14 00:00 GMT (UK) »
Is it possible to find/view the patient records from Mile End Old Town infirmary? If so, how does one go about that.

I am looking for Elizabeth Gibb(s) - who died at Mile End Old Town infirmary November 10, 1901 from TB.

Would there be any information on her date of admission, relatives, any thing like that?

Thank you
Wendy

Hi Wendy

Do you have her death certificate or did you find her in the London Burial Records?

Some of the Poor Law records held at the London Metropolitan Archives are available online at Ancestry. However, they aren't indexed.

So if you have access, make your way to the London records and look for the Board of Guardians records which are ther under baptisms, marriages and burials.

The borough is Tower Hamlets, the parish is Stepney, then scroll down the admission & dsicharge registers until you find Mile End and the correct years.

Also have a scroll throught the Creed Registers

As they aren't indexed you'll have to look through all the images until you find what you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dawn
Thank you for this information, unfortunately I am in Canada and unable to visit the records office this way.

I am awaiting the death certificate to confirm the correct person. The name and date of death are correct but one never knows - could be wrong Elizabeth Gibb.

I did find the London Burial records on Ancestry. I also found the Mile End Old Town Records on The National Archives site http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=387-me&cid=3#3 Stating the records are held at the Royal London Hospital Archives and Museum, however they only have from 1911 to 1990. Am wondering if the records prior to 1911 are still available.

Will contact them to see if they know.

Any other tips would be appreciated.
Thanks

I know this is a old post but I have just used Dawn's instructions to find my Hubby's grandfather 1st wife dying there in 1914 having just obtained her death certificate.

Much appreciated the guidance.
