6th Dragoons

I am trying to trace great great grandfather Alexander Good born in Ireland (can't trace date) who married Amelia Armstrong in 1869 in Athlone, Ireland
He was a Sergeant Major in  the 6th Dragoons , according to his son's death certificate (also called Alexander) and his three children are all born in barrack towns in Ireland. I am trying to find were he served in the army with his regiment.
If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the information, it is very useful. I had traced the baptisms as each child is born in a different barracks town, but had been unable to trace his career further back or his birth.
Being a Scot is a bit of a surprise as I expected him to be Irish like Alexander junior (grandfather) who always said he came from Tipperary which is where the youngest child is born in August 1873. Which raises some questions if he died earlier!

A little bit of extra info, he was awarded 5 good conduct badges. He was in possesion of the Crimea, Turkish & Sudan medals, with a clasp for Sebastopol & the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a Out-Pensioner at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

However, I have a few doubts as to this being the same Alexander Good. The Scottish birth has thrown me-why would he join an Irish Regiment ? Also his children were born in Newbridge (1870),Dundalk (1871) and Clonmel (1873) which were seemingly the barracks for the 6th Dragoons (Iniskillings) not Carabiniers. If he died shortly after he left the hospital was he wounded?
What & when was the war in Sudan?
