Yorks and Lancs Pte uniform dating help.

Hi all,
Sorry if these are posted in the wrong place, please feel free to move them if thats the case.
I have come across these two pictures of a relative who joined the York and Lancs Rgt in 1907 and who died of TB in 1913.
I would like to know more about the uniform and date. Is it a dress uniform or pre WWI did the Rgt still wear (I presume red) tunics. I have read in History books about how unprepared the British were at the start of WWI and they treated it initially like all previous wars, maybe the Drab tunics came later?
Any help would be much appriciated along with any ideas on the chap to the left of Pte John Phillips in the smaller image.
Thanks a lot
Tommy

Hi Tommy
It is fortunate that he did not die while still serving, as before WW1, they would have destroyed his record. Also if he had been discharged in early 1914 his record would have been with the 'WW1' records that were in the 1940 fire.
As with about one in five recruits to the army he joined the Militia first. Changing ones mind in the Militia only cost £2 to purchase a discharge, while it was £20 as a Regular. His Militia attestation form is also on FindMyPast. This gives details of four brothers -
http://www.findmypast.co.uk/army-service-records-show-image.action?sdrfnbr=960356119&pageNo=1
The record has O for each Brother suggesting they are older. So the young man may not be given.
He served with the 2nd Battalion who were in York (from 1906) until being transferred to the permanent staff of the 3rd (Militia) Battalion in 1908. They were based in Pontefract.
Khaki was introduced for overseas service in the 1870s. It was introduced for home use after the Boer War, and used alongside the red tunic until the latter was discontinued for most regiments in 1914. In hot climates 'khaki' was cotton drill, while at home they used the heavier wool serge.

- gives good information
If you have the original photograph a high resolution scan of the boys belt buckle may tell you the force he served in.
Added...
Here he is in 1911 -

Perhaps the boy with the slouch hat is in the Boy's Brigade, same belt and small white haversack, and Boy's Brigade scouts wore a hat similar to the Boy Scouts, if the buckle was enlarged it would show and anchor.
