Hi,
can anyone explain why a soldier who died in India in 1917 is named on the Basra Memorial,
I am trying to find out where he is buried too. His name was Patrick Drummy, No. 4909, died 11/07/1917,
thanks,
Topsey

Yoy may find this picture of interest.
It shows the Basra Memorial in the desert where it was rebuilt on the instructions of Saddam Hussein. The picture was taken from a British helicopter bringing troops in to inspect the memorial back in 2005

I have some more pictures of the memorial from when the squaddies landed and were looking around it.
If you email me via my website (see footer), I'll send then over to you (would be after the weekend, though)

According to both "Soldiers Died in the Great War" and "Ireland, Casualties of World War I", he died in Mesopotamia.
