Age slightly out but there's a death for Margaret Bamford - if she was a Bamford - age 36 W Derby
Sep 1900. 
However if they weren't married then William is correct to put single in 1901 and not a widower I guess.

In 1901 William is in Kingston upon Thames as a visitor bn Halifax, USA age 36 and Single occupation Tailor

1901 original page says born Halifax, North America.

It's only an Ancestry transcriber who has translated that into USA!

Same age; same occupation; same birthplace.

Too much of a coincidence?
