I'm interested in any info regarding a John Taylor who married Sarah Armstead ca 1744.  I believe the marriage is recorded in Holy Trinity, Ely, Cambridgeshire.  One of their sons was Armstead Taylor b.1753.
Does anyone know anything about them?   I appreciate your help.  I'm in the U.S., and I believe Armstead might be my ancestor who came in the late 1700's.

Thanks, Sue, this is the same family.  I had the marriage date and the christening dates of the children, but not the birth dates of the parents, nor the burial date of their son.

I have searched passenger lists for their names after 1755 and for Armstead's alone; however, I've had no luck.

An Armstead Taylor received land in Wilkes Co., Georgia in 1785/86.  Then in 1791 an Armstead Taylor died in that same county.  He left a will in which he mentioned only a wife, Mary_.  He didn't mention any children.

I would so love to be able to prove that these three men were one and the same as well as my ancestor.

Are  you researching the Taylor line?  Do you have ancestors who came to America?

Thanks for your help.  I'll be glad to return the favor if I can!

Yes, I've tried various spellings--anything vaguely resembling Armstead.

The records from that time are not complete.  The land patents don't usually have ages.  We have to make educated guesses based on poll taxes (if we find them).  The 1790 census for GA doesn't exist.   Many records were burned during the War Between the States in the 1860's.  Also since then, there have been many records lost to fires and floods!

I'll keep searching.  Maybe one day the passenger list for the ship he came on will be transcribed and posted online, and I'll find him.   Or maybe I'll run across someone else researching that family looking for their lost gggggguncle who went to America!

Thanks again for your help.  I am glad I found this site!
