Long Standing Brickwall
« on: Tuesday 11 February 14 20:38 GMT (UK) »
I'm returning to this brickwall after a break of about 2 years hoping someone may be able to help.  This family seemed to have moved around a lot.

My 2 x gt grandmother was Elizabeth Kendrick born 1798 in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire to Thomas Kendrick & Harriett Weston.  They married in 1793 in Huntingdon and the entry states he was a widower.  They had 7 children

Sophia Weston Kendrick 1790 Huntingdon (before they married but entry states Thomas was natural father
John  1793 Huntingdon
George Frederick 1794 Wisbech (died young)
Thomas 1796 Wisbech  (lived in Norfolk)
Elizabeth 1798 Wisbech
Harriott 1803 Market Harborough
Eliza 1805 Market Harborough  (married George Charles in 1833)

The baptisms show that Thomas was victualler.  After 1808 Thomas & Harriett disappear. so I have no idea where either of them came from.
By 1817 Elizabeth Kendrick was in Nottingham and married her first husband William Simpson in Lenton.  Now the only clue I have is one of the witnesses was a chap called John Brownlow. His daughter Lousia  married a Thomas Kendrick in Nottingham in 1846.  So is there any connection between that line of Kendrick's and my line.  I have found Thomas & Louisa in the censuses and he gives his birthplace as Wednesbury, in Staffordshire around 1820.  I seem to be going round in circles with this one, so any clues or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Carol
Carol you refer to John Brownlow's daughter, Louisa marrying Thomas Kendrick in Notthingham.

Louisa Brownlow/Kendrick is my great great Aunt. She did indeed marry Thomas Kendrick and my information is that Thomas Kendrick was the son of William Kendrick b c 1793 and Sara (surname not known).

William and Sarah Kendrick had 3 children,1 Thomas b c 1820, 2 Ellenor b c 1817 m. William Gascoigne (they immigrated to Australia, they belonged to a group of 600 odd people referred to as the Lacemakers of Calais), 3 Ann Elizabeth b c 1828 m William Ward (also immigrated to Australia with her sister).

I am wondering if your Elizabeth Kendrick b 1798 may be the sister of my Thomas b c 1820

Hi Maeeye

Thanks for your reply.   The plot has thickened since I last posted.

I have found Thomas (1820) & Louisa in 1851 census living in Lenton, also in the household is Ann Kendrick aged 23 who is described as Thomas's sister.
I found Ann's marriage 3 Jan 1853 to John Fiddler and Thomas & Lousia Kendrick are witnesses.   Ann gives her father's name as Phineas Kendrick and I have found her baptism 27 Jan 1828 in Wednesbury, Staffs.

However, the marriage entry for Thomas & Louisa gives his father as William Kendrick a mechanic, so I am still going round in circles.   I will send you a PM
