Walton / Trimley BRUCE 1740 -1800
« on: Tuesday 11 February 14 11:00 GMT (UK) »
I have census details suggesting births 1790's in Walton. Would like to know if there are others who didn't survive to 1841/51 as naming patterns might help sort out early Bruce families. Any evidence when they arrived in area or indication of military connection?
Particularly interested in forenames : George, James/Jacob, Isaac, Abraham/Archibald, Ezra and Thomas.
Hoping someone can help!

Hi gracem,

I cannot give details of any baptisms, but in the Suffolk Burial Index (ex SFHS) there are the following which might be of help;
21-1-1798 Jacob Bruce (72), Labr, Walton St.Mary
9-2-1815      "         "    (28),        Trimley St.Mary
8-1-1766   George   "  s/o George & Ann, Walton St.Mary
21-9-1770      "        "   "        "          "        "          "

I scanned through the Walton parish registers for the Bruce surname and managed to pick out a few. The fiche were very patchy so not sure if these will help or not.

George Bruce and Anne Tye married by banns at Walton 15th November 1762
Both singlepersons

Some children of George and Anne Bruce:
Sarah baptised September 4th 1763
George baptised November 10th 1764
George buried January 9th 1766
Another George buried in 1770
James baptised in 1771

Elizabeth w/o Jacob Bruce buried 10th October 1783

Thank you sooo much. What date is your earliest fiche? I think Jacob Bruce who m 7 Nov1756 Elizabeth Clarke and George Bruce who married Ann Tye 1762 were brothers but I can't find where they were born. It is just possible that George was the son of a very young Jacob as Jacob was supposedly 72 when he died in 1798.
Jacob and Elizabeth had Jacob jnr in 1754 but I cant find any other children. The junior Jacob m Rebecca Mullenger at Ipswich St Clements 1784.
There is a Jacob m Elizabeth Bugg 1780 Walton that I have assumed is the junior Jacob and that the burial you provided is this Elizabeth rather than his mother.....in which case what happened to her? Its all a big puzzle.

Suffolk archives have a Jonathon Bruce m Elizabeth Wynnel in 1757 he was a widower from Trimley she was single from Nacton. The marriage was going to take place in Nacton..Does anyone know if it did?
Also is Jon Job..I can't get to see the original. We're my missing Bruce's born in Nacton.?
Where and when was he born ? He could be 20-80 I guess.

Hi gracem,

According to the marriage transcripts, Jonathon Bruce, wdr, of Trimley St.Mary married Elizabeth Wynnel 28-10-1756 at Walton (St.Mary), Suffolk
Source;  Suffolk Marriage. Index (1754-1812) Colneis Deanery issued by the Suffolk FHS.

In the Suffolk Burial Index there is a burial for Ann Bruce, of Trimley buried 22-9-1748 as "w/o John the younger"  in Trimley St,Mary.
Also burials for;
29-8-1745 Ann Bruce, inf.
23-4-1747    "        "    d/o Jonathon

18-7-1763 Jonathon Bruce
18-5-1783 Elizabeth    "

24-2-1764 James *         "    inf

In the Suffolk Bapt. Index I  can only see  two bapts in Trimley;
16-3-1760 Esther Bruce d/o Jonathon & Elizabeth
29-7-1763 James *    "     s/o        "               "

I can't go back any further as the records prior to 1754 haven't been released by the SFHS.

Hope the above helps.
