Isabella McDonnell
« on: Tuesday 11 February 14 06:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am trying to get the death record of my G,G grandmother Isabella ( Belle) McDonnell nee Berry.
She was married to Allan McDonnell (d.1864, he was in his 60's), they lived in Gortrighy, Rasharkin. She survived Allan but I don't know by how many years. The witness to Allan's death was their son James.
Anyone able to help?

Have you considered the 1883 death in Ballymoney district of an Isabella M'Dowell [sic] born c1813?  Always worth checking in case surname was mis-transcribed. Or the Isabella McDonnell death in the district in 1865 aged c15 - again, worth checking in case age mis-transcribed.

Also, on any records, check under spelling 'Gortereghy' for the townland too.

Above deaths unlikely as Isabella still in Valuation Revision books after these dates. Indeed, Isabella's name appears until c1897 then in next book commencing 1898, at map reference 13 where Isabella had previously been recorded, it is now a James McDonnell. Unusually, the book commencing 1898 does not have Isabella's name recorded and scored through with James as replacement, it only has James entered, yet seems to be same property as has map reference 13, as did Isabella's property in the previous Revision Book.

Just had a closer look again at book ended 1887 and if seems as if there is a very faint score through Isabella and entry for James above Isabella's name, and by faint date in column to right, it looks to be 1887, so perhaps still worth checking the M'Dowell death of 1883.

Thank-you, Scotmum. I will have a look at those two records.
Thanks again.
