Kings royal rifles 5th battalion/Charles Carter 1915
« on: Monday 10 February 14 10:25 GMT (UK) »
???trying to find details of my husbands great grandfather & where his family originated from.  His name was Charles Carter & from his wedding certificate 21Oct 1915 you know he was born 1889 & he was a private in 5th battalion KRR Botany Bay based Sheerness, his fathers name was john carter a painter, deceased.  They were married in Alton, Hampshire as his wife Edith Cox was from there.  Trying to find out if he was from Hampshire or Sheerness or somewhere completely different but then what brought him to KRR & what brought him to Hampshire, was he based in Winchester or was he from this area originally but happened to be based in Sheerness at the time of the marriage.  Any help advise is appreciated.

This is my husbands tree he thinks this might be the link but we are unsure.  What we need to do is find his army number & see if we can trace details from there!  His son was Charles Conrad Carter he was with the royal artillery and died just after WW2 in Malta, this might be the route we need to take, there might be details there.
