Hi could anyone let me know which regiment this is ? its my Grandfather from around 1914-1915 maybe 1916,he came from the Scottish Borders born in Jedburgh but may have moved to Kelso by then. For some reason I have the Kings Own Scottish Borderers in my head the cap badge is certainly large enough but the tunic buttons are odd,
The photos are photos of him printed as postcards, for his family we guess
The full length photo was taken at W Aitken,Commercial Cst,Ladybank,Fife
the other photo Cupar Studios South Bridge Studio,Cupar-Fife
any help would be great

Hi,
Certainly the 2nd photograph looks like a KOSB cap badge. The KOSBs were first raised in Edinburgh in 1689. The central part of the cap badge is a depiction of Edinburgh Castle over the Scottish saltire.
Above is the motto 'In veritate religionis confido' (In true religion is my trust); below, 'Nisi Dominus frusta' (Unless the Lord is with me all is in vain) - both mottoes associated with the city.

My brother served with the kosb, I asked if this could be kosb and he thinks it looks like an argyle and Sutherland highlander cap badge, if you have his army number the regimental museum might help.

Hi

To me he is a KOSB soldier, definitely not an A&SH.  ::)

The badge on the TOS is the KOSB the photo of the soldier wearing the Glengarry is also a KOSB. The Black Watch do no wear a badge in their TOS they wear the Red Hackle. The A&SH's Glengarry only has a 2 colour check, red and white. Kind Regards Tomscot.
