Harpers and McKenzies
« on: Saturday 08 February 14 18:10 GMT (UK) »
I am new to this site and have been looking for information on William Harper and Margaret McKenzie who are my ancestors. I know they lived in Lanarkshire Scotland and were married in Blantyre Scotland in 1844.  According to the 1851 and 1861 Scottish censuses both were born in Ireland- both around 1824. and that is all the information I have going backward. Children of this family are Margaret, William, James, Adam Thomas, John and Daniel- all born in the Lanarkshire area. I have found no other interested parties searching for them and am hopeful someone here will have some information that will help me. Thanks you for any information you can provide.

Do you have their marriage to get their father's names and occupations ?

Tara- unfortunately no.  The information I got off of Scotland's people did not contain it.

To even start looking in Ireland for pre 1864 records you need father's name, mother's maiden name and an exact parish that the family were from to see if church records for that are exist . . . None of which you have I'm afraid.

Hopefully someone may read this who has been working on the same family and may have some leads for you !

If William and Margaret died in Scotland then you should get their parents names from their death certificates.

Hi Elwyn- I think we have been in contact before on Ancestry and I have made no progress in finding either William or Margaret!  Margaret died in the US and William seems to have just disappeared.  He was in the 1861 census but then gone.  Seems that the remaining family lived with the Smellies when the 1871 census was taken in April and then immigrated in June of that year. -

Where and when in the U.S. did Margaert die? death certificates for most states list names of borth parents and other inportant details.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Margaret died in Iowa as did her son Jamews (my ggrandfather).  Unfortunately, the death certificates has been "lost"- not really good record keeping in the 1890's- early 1900's.
