William Loudon, born 1857 Magherafelt, Ireland - looking for parish record
« on: Thursday 06 February 14 17:32 GMT (UK) »
Wondering if anyone could find a parish record for a birth/baptism for William Loudon, born 24 Nov 1857 in Magherafelt, Derry.  He moved to South Africa between his birth and his marriage.

Thanks for help

Hi,
Williams birth is before the official registration for births in Ireland (1864). However Loudon is a fairly rare name in Londonderry and there was a couple, David Loudon and Anne Simpson, who married in 1857 in Woods Chapel Church of Ireland, parish of Artrea, Magherafelt district. Some of their children were Eliza Jane 1864, Mary 1865, Anne 1867 and Sarah 1873.

Thanks for that, can you tell me how you found that information?
Is there any way of looking at the parish records for that church?

 :)

Hi, the marriage and the childrens' births can be found on the familysearch site. See https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1584964 . The church records are probably available in PRONI on microfilm.

Do you know what religion William Louden was? The details already posted are from Church of Ireland records but some of the Loudons in and around Magherafelt were Catholic so this will make a difference when searching for information. Also remember that not all records survive/exist for the period and of those that do not all are online.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I don't know what religion William was.    His descendant were Protestant, but I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean he was...

Thanks everyone for your help - we're getting warmer!

My great grandfather was William Loudon (b. 24 Nov 1857 d. 4 Oct 1927), married Florence Hannah Brooke, and had 5 children (Annie, Alexander, Frank, Eleanor & Alexander).
Do we have the same William Loudon in common?
