« on: Thursday 06 February 14 12:29 GMT (UK) »
I have a family member called Thomas coady born 1876-1878 Dublin Ireland but someone on a family site found a record showing that after the war he moved to Scotland , they never told me the site or where in Scotland so I rally need the help of someone more experience, I've tried looking on various sites but I am struggling, I am trying to find maybe a death record and if maybe he got married? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

There is only one death record for a Thomas Coady in Scotland using Scotlands People. The death was in 1933 in Govan, Glasgow City, Lanarkshire. He was age 58.  You can see the original image on the Scotlands People (credits only) site.  It is of course possible that his surname has been misrecorded. Using soundex comes up with far more hits. Anyway if he died in Scotland his death record should be on Scotlands People .

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)

That's brilliant thank you . Is soundex a free site or even a bit cheaper than the other site do you know? Don't fancy laying £7 to view just the one record hehe

No what I meant by soundex is that it is one of the buttons available when searching on Scotlands People. I am afraid that Scotlands People is the only site for Scottish death records.

For £7 you will be able to check for marriage records as well as death records

Both Marriage and death records will give his parents names as well as the place and cause of death and also the name of the person who registered the death.

You should also have enough credits left to check if he had children

Not bad for £7

You should be able to view up to 5 records for your £7.

Just be glad that you are looking in Scotland - if it were in England it would be £9.25 for just one record, and you'd have to send away and wait for it to come in the post.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
