Odd co-incidence that the John Cleary you found Looby and Agnes Andrew both show as living at 'Holm Street' in 1851, except one was in Portpatrick and the other in Glasgow!

Monica

So they do! I just double checked John in case I'd made mistake ;)

Not sure now about John Andrew of the 17th Lancers. I'm most certainly no expert on military history but I was intrigued enough to do a quick search online. And I think the 17th Lancers only came to Scotland  at some point during 1841. From the brief search I've done it appears they had spent 1838/39/40 in Ireland (South) - places like Dublin, Cahir and Dundalk. Of course who knows whether Janet Hislop spent some time in Ireland before returning home :-\ but .....
Let's hope the christening record reveals something.
Looby :)

There is a John Andrew in Holm Street Port Patrick on the 1841.
He is lodging with the McGhie family, he's a 24 year old , born in Ireland and his occupation is Nailer  :-\
Could he be the father of Agnes?
 Looby :)
