Yes it is, you've found many more links than I could. Thank you very much. At
http://www.aske.co.uk/AskeHall/History.aspxI found,'His son
Thomas Dundas (1795-1873) succeeded as 2nd Earl of Zetland. He was a Knight of the Garter,
Lord Lieutanant of the North Riding of Yorkshire and Grandmaster of the Freemasons of England.
He was also the fortunate owner of Voltigeur, a great racehorse, who won the Derby & St Leger in 1850. The following year, Voltigeur and The Flying Dutchman, owned by the Earl of Eglington & Winton and winner of the 1851 Derby, raced each other at York for 1,000 guineas in what became known as The Great Match. The Flying Dutchman won. The 2nd Earl married Sophia Williamson, daughter of Sir Hedworth Williamson Bt. but died childless.'
A family story says that Thomas Wales was an illigitamate son of Lord Dundas. Thomas was born in April 1839 in West Lutton , Weaverthorpe parish. His birth certificate gives both his parents - they were married and he was born in wedlock. However his son and granddaughter both told the same story of his birth to their descendants and neither said anything else that has not been found to be true. Thomas was a farm labourer from an early age at Haverdale House West Lutton, later moving to Bradford and then becoming a cab driver working for himself. Brothers, either of Thomas or his son Fred, were also said to be jockeys. I can't find evidence of this either (although Thomas's son, Fred, was a very slight short man whose physical frame, I imagine, would have been very suited to horse riding).
I still cannot find any evidence of Lord Dundas's family being at Weaverthorpe/West Lutton/Driffield etc in 1938. I wondered if anyone would know of any family links to the area?
