Thank you all for your suggestions, Queensborough Terrace looks a possibility, but I haven't found one in York. The reference to Kendal on the photo has always stumped me. As far as I know, none of the family ever lived anywhere near Kendal. And it doesn't appear as a surname in my tree.

Looking for a Queensborough  Terrace ,  I  came  up with  one  ,  but  it's in London ,   but   a    York Hotel  is  mentioned as  being  on that     street !

An  old  map of York    is   in need  I think  !

I'm not sure Kendal is relevant to the address, it's written in different pencil, in capitals, Could it be where the photo was taken, were they on holiday or a late honeymoon perhaps?

Thanks everyone, I think the Dewsbury Terrace address looks the right one. The address looks as if it has been written over in ink, which makes the capital D a bit like a Q. My great grandfather was a coach painter working for the NE railway in York, so the location would be very good for the main railway station. My late mother recalled visiting her grandparents when she was about 6 (about 1930) and walking in the walls which was close to their house, so it would also fit with this location assuming they hadn't moved in 10 years.
