Dorathea/Dora ROONEY baptism St Agatha Dublin 1870 - another pair of eyes please

Hi, You have all given me invaluable advice on some of my other Dublin families and hope your eyes are better than mine on reading the church register for a birth for Dorothea/Dora Rooney on the irishgenealogy website.

Dorothea Rooney baptised 21st November 1870 at St Agatha. Parents Thomas Rooney and Mary Purcell. Record is the one right of the bottom of the church register. In the last column is something written I can't decipher except maybe the first word is 'parents'.

This might be the other one that you found- unfortunately the image is very dark and I couldn't make it out either but since it's an R.C. register quite likely in Latin (as the child's name, Dorothea, is probably not the name her family called her by)

There is a deciphering part to this site where I would post your query as I don't know what sort of magnifiers those people use but they've gotten to the end of some tricky stuff for me !

Many thanks. I have posted as advised.

Another brick wall as I can find no marriage for Thomas and Mary. I have Dora's birth certificate where her name is stated as Dora. Her marriage gives her father's name as Thomas Rooney. I haven't been able to get any further back or found any of those mentioned in the 1901 or 1911 census. I know Dora didn't die until 1915.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Are you saying that you can't find Dora on the 1901 or 1911 Irish Census ?

Whom did she marry, where and when ?

It might be possible that re the latin on the baptism Dora and her parents may have been from out of town - sure we'll see what the decipher'ers come up with !

She married Patrick Oglesby - sometimes known as Peter on 13th February 1888 at St Andrews. They had 5 children that I know of between 1888 and 1899 living in Mecklenburgh Street, Lower Tyrone Street and Montgomery Street in 1899. She is featured in the prison records regularly up until 1914.

a Patrick Oglesby with a daughter called Dorothy - coincidence

It says he is married a year and with one child - so that makes the William and Dorothy children of a first wife - are you sure Dora didn't die 'til 1915 ?

Yes, I have her death record from Glasnevin. Peter Oglesby was the informant and she is listed as a labourer's wife. He didn't die until 1919. Interesting that he wasn't buried in the same grave but with other Oglesby family members when she was the first in the grave.

Those Oglesby's are certainly proving elusive alround !?

I'm trying to think might there have been other versions of the surname ?!

I'm just searching by OG* but nothing good coming up

I've even tried just D (for Dora) O for Oglesby as this is how people in hospitals and institutions show up but nothing great either ??
