Hi krissy

Can you let us know what you are looking for?

There are chatters who visit but they do have different areas of expertise.

hi dawn , sorry re read your reply lol, so here is what my daughter is looking for , the archives have a file of records on josef fingerneissl , he was born in austria but came to this country before ww2 , he had an english wife and owned a shop ! when war broke out his shop was taken off him and he was sent to an interment camp on the isle of man , tho he was austrian he was still deemed alien and probably not trustworthy , the story goes that they tried ti ontern his wife too , but she was freed since she was english  josef was sent to one of the camps and was still there for some reason n the 1950s , he never returned to his family , my daughter is trying to find info as to why this was and why  was he not naturalised and any info that can shed light on his demise . she went online to the archives and they have approx 58 pages which as you can imagine is going to cost , so she is hoping if anyone is going there they can  have a look and see if it worth the cost ??, i have ordered records myself and seem to have a few pages that have only a few words on  :-\ not really worth paying for these lol !!!
if anyone is going there we would really appreciate ad over view of what is actually in there .
many thanks
krissy

Hi Krissy,
What a sad but interesting piece of research your daughter has  :)  I can't help with the documents you want but has your daughter got background information on him?  I ask, as, after reading your post yesterday I went off into the internet to find out more & gathered some bits & bobs  ;)

I would contact these people for a quote. You would need to register.
http://www.arcre.com/copyservice
On the face of it they charge 9 pence a page for copying. Although they seem to be Military researchers, I don't think your request will cause a problem.
Just send them this link
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/s/res?_q=ho405%2F14222
I have never used them myself but know people who have and  who have been satisfied.

hi jane and seaweed thankyou for the replies and links my daughter will appreciate it x
yes its a puzzler , we have found his father frank (franz) had an fbi file and managed to get it copied , seems a disgruntled neighbour tried in vain to get him in trouble , we have found him on the 1910 and 1920 census but then he dissappears completley , so now we have the task of finding him ?? but josef was in this country and the task in hand is to find out what happened to him ??? so anything that you come up with will be gratefully recieved xx

hi all its krissy's daughter, thank you for your helpful links.  The only information i have on josef Fingerneissl born 27th feb 1889 is that he came to the UK in 1901 from Eferding, Austria. He was an illegitimate child of Maria Fingerneissl who was born 15th Jan 1869. Sorry mum franz/frank was his uncle not his father lol.  When he arrived he worked as a servant in a large house in Eastbourne where he met his wife susan marie Alder.  The stories say that he at some point before ww2 owned a shop in Eastbourne that was taken off him when he was interred on the isle of man.  I have come across susan Fingerneissls (nee alder) internment record that says she attended a tribunal to exempt her from internment but this was done after she had already been sent there with Josef.  What i find ironic is that their one and one son William Fingerneissl was fighting for Britain at the same time.
