CUNDY Birth
« on: Saturday 25 January 14 10:56 GMT (UK) »
G'day Chatters,
I am hoping someone can help me please.
I am seeking the birth of one Robert CUNDY sometime between 1813 and 1818. His parents are believed to be George and Sarah. Unfortunately I have no idea what Parish this event was in.
He was convicted in 1831 at the Colchester Essex Quarter Sessions for house breaking and transported to Australia aboard the vessel Lady Harewood.
Many thanks in advance.

The birth I now believe may have been in Ipswich.

Just wondering why you think his parents could be George and Sarah?

George Cundy married Sarah Haggar 12/12/1815 St. Nicholas, Ipswich

Can only find 2 childrens baptisms:

George Henry bp.12/7/1816 St. Nicholas, Ipswich, son of George (a Farrier) and Sarah
Eliza - bp'd and died 1819 St. Margaret, Ipswich    dau.             ditto

George and Sarah are alone in Ipswich 1841-1861 - she died 1864 and he in 1867.

Would have thought that the earlier records of him are likely to be more accurate re. his year of birth which seems to be 1812/1813.   Looked for a baptism as Robert Haggar in case he was born before their marriage but nothing.

Thank you Annette and Trevor for your replies, appreciated.

I have just printed off the report in the Essex Standard and Colchester and County Advertiser and note the crime was committed in the Parish of St Botolph and wondered if in fact it was this Parish or a bordering Parish that Robert CUNDY was born and not necessarily to a George and Sarah, in about 1813.
Because of the newspaper report maybe even a birth of a Robert HUNNEX the name he gave at his trial.
In answer to your question Annette, the names of George CUNDY and Sarah HAGAR were quoted in an article from Ancestry.com

Thanks again Annette and Trevor for replying.

hi wal
have been through the parish registers for st botolphs from 1793 to 1822  , st giles 1800 to 1822  and st james 1812 to 1822  all in close proximity to each other but no cundy births at all .
had a look at parish records on find my past for Essex and no cundys show  so it looks like Suffolk is a safer bet .
