Thompson and Hornsby
« on: Friday 24 January 14 17:50 GMT (UK) »
William Thompson 1830 Jarrow married Elizabeth Hornsby 1828 Stanhope in 1853 in Chester-Le-Street.I cant find William for sure before 1871(in Greencroft,Durham).Found Elizabeth in 1851 a servant in Shotley low quarter Northumberland. So cant find their parents or any hints to their parents etc.Im doing the search for my neighbour,so i can show her some of her ancestry.William and Elizabeth are g,g,grandparents.Any little hint would be greatly appreciated. :)

A copy of the marriage cert should give you both fathers names

Hi agree this is the correct method to follow, the only help I can give is that the marriage was on the 22nd October 1853 Holy Trinity Pelton, Durham both aged 23

The only 1841 for Elizabeth in the age range is in Gainford, Barnard Castle - age 13 - parents William (carpet manufacturer) and Jane but without knowing her fathers name/occ from the marriage cert it's difficult to say

Too many William Thompson's to determine correct entry without fathers details

They're in the 1861 census at Houghton-Le-Spring:
William Thompson head age 31 coal miner born Jarrow
Elizabeth Thompson wife age 32 born Stanhope
Elizabeth Thompson daughter age 6 born Lanchester
Warless Thompson son age 4 born Houghton
Jane Thompson daughter age 1 born Houghton

Agree with CaroleW - ordering the marriage certificate for William and Elizabeth will give you both their father's name. There are lots named William Thompson of the right age in about the right place in 1851 and 1841 so it would be difficult to know whether you've picked the right one or not without knowing a father's name.
AYRSHIRE - Strachan, McCrae, Haddow, Haggerty, Neilson, Alexander
ABERDEENSHIRE (Cruden and Longside) - Fraser, Hay, Logan, Hutcheon or Hutchison, Sangster
YORKSHIRE (Worsbrough) - Green, Oxley, Firth, Cox, Rock
YORKSHIRE (Royston and Carlton) - Senior, Simpson, Roydhouse, Hattersley

As the date and venue is known - you could try posting a lookup request on the Durham board.  Somebody may be prepared to look up the parish record for you
