Hi
I have had a look at the shipping archives and see that they travelled as "BROWN", which is still a popular surname in Australia. Ancestry have records on the E Rolls of a Anneliese and William James Brown living in Dandenong Vic. between 1968 and 1980 (it may be them).

They did not arrive at Canberra.  The location of their immigration record is Canberra.

There are no children listed on the details of their arrival and as Anneliese was born 1917 I doubt she would be having children after their arrival in 1961.

There are no other BROWN's enrolled to vote at their address from 1968 to 1970.  Online records only extent to 1980.

Australian Electoral Rolls

BROWN William James  Storeman of Dandenong   Died   10 Aug 2002

However I doubt this is your man as he appears to have been born c1913

It may be worth purchasing their immigration file to find in which State in Australia your people of interest settled.  They may have chosen not to enrol to vote or if they settled in South Australia that State's electoral rolls were not made available to Ancestry.

Is the only source of your info about William James BROWN and a wife Anneliese and their immigration to Australia from their file on NAA?

I did wonder about another couple who emigrated to Australia. This was a second marriage for Wm J BROWN his first being in the Sept quarter 1949.

Marriages Sep 1960
BROWN    William J    Jessen    Lewisham    5d/277
JESSEN    Anneliese    Brown    Lewisham    5d/277

AND this couple and children from both the first and second marriages emigrated to Australia on the CASTEL FELICE departing UK on 27 September 1964 under the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme.  The husband was also born in 1924.

I am puzzled at your statement

his name on his birth certificate was down as ( james buchanan or brown ) born 22/07/1924

Where was he born?  Do you have the registration details please.

my uncle was born James Buchannan or brown born 22/07/1924 that is what is on his birth certificate his mother was married to William brown who got killed in the first world war died 1918. so his wife Mary carruth brown. MS Buchannan. after her husband was killed in action had a baby with someone else. but the father was not named on the birth certificate for James Buchannan or brown. so she just put down Buchannan or brown so he could pick what he wanted to be named. but as far as I have been told he was James brown
