1870 United States Federal Census Record
« on: Tuesday 21 January 14 15:34 GMT (UK) »
Dear all,

Is there anywhere in the UK that I can consult the 1870 United States Federal Census Record? I unfortunately don't have the US package on Ancestry.

I'm looking for a George Blowe in Camden New Jersey b. 1813.

Thanks,
Sam

The 1870 census (and many other US census records) are available for free at www.familysearch.org

I notice that George, though born in England, is registered as a US citizen. Will there be any record of his naturalisation?

Apologies -- not dealt with US genealogy before.

Best,
Sam

Not all naturalizations are online, so it may be difficult to find (assuming the census is correct and he was naturalized).  People could be naturalized in federal or more local courts, so there is not necessarily one specific place to look.  You can see more information about naturalizations in New Jersey here:  http://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/New_Jersey_Naturalization_and_Citizenship

There is a biographical sketch of George's son John here:  https://archive.org/stream/cu31924028827959/cu31924028827959_djvu.txt

On www.fultonhistory.com, there are a number of entries for George in Philadelphia city directories.  There is also a death notice for him from 1895.  Try a Boolean search of George w/2 Blowe.

There is a death record for wife Ellen with mistranscribed surname here:  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J6JC-5PR
