Looking for photographs of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in WW1 (RWF MUSEUM)
« on: Monday 20 January 14 22:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello everybody! We are going to be starting the mammoth task of looking for photos of individual soldiers from the RWF who were killed in the Great War. We are especially looking for those who died in 1914 to begin with but will want all years covered eventually. Please could you help? We would need as much info as possible to go with the photo to make sure we fit the right photo to the right man - but sometimes a name might be all we need.

Thank you so much. Are you able to email them to us at the Museum? We are hoping to show the names and photos of the fallen RWF on the centenary of their deaths on a screen at the Museum in Caernarfon.

Hello Shirley,

We’re currently working on a similar project to identify WW1 soldiers from Corris and district, to include Upper & Lower Corris, Aberllefenni, Ceinws/Esgairgeiliog & Pantperthog.  All Meirionnydd.

So far just over 100 soldiers have been identified, but I know there must be more!  Of these at least 22 were in the RWF, 10 of whom were killed in action, although none in 1914.  I will forward their photographs and biographies to you at Caernarfon.

For anyone reading this thread, (I don’t mean to hijack it!) I would be very grateful to hear of any WW1 soldiers who had connections to the above villages.  Our e-mail is

Hi Shirley

My great uncle, Caradog C Roberts, fought in the RWF - specifically 16th battalion, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, part of 113rd Brigade in 38th Welsh Division, service number 201116).

Sadly he died in the final 100 days offensive, in the fighting around Villers-Outreaux.

I'm trying to locate a photo as I'm sure my grandmother had one. If I find one I'll scan it and send it to you.

If you already have one, I would really appreciate a copy!

Regards

Dave North

Hi Dave

Thanks for your message. I have checked what has come in so far and we don't have him yet. Early days though. I will get back to you if he does come in.

In the meantime if you find his photo first please do send it to us.
