Agnes Gould Morton - who is she????
« on: Monday 20 January 14 20:45 GMT (UK) »
I have discovered this woman living with some ancestors of mine.  The Morton family of 39 Boscombe Road, Shepherds Bush.  On virtually every ER up from 1943 with this family.

And she is even listed as the exector of the will of Algernon Morton (of same address) and she is listed as a widow.

This family had 3 sons:   Frederick Charles George William Morton 1888-1916
Clifford Lawrence Morton 1894 (think he may have died in 1917)
and Algernon Morton 1896 - 1955

Now I have searched for a marriage for all 3 sons, from age 16, and even going past the supposed death dates found.

For the life of me I cannot find any record of any of these 3 sons marrying (please do not confuse Algernon R. Morton with this one).

HELP......   Can anyone out there spot something that I have missed for looking too hard.

 ;)

Going night nights now, so will be back tomorrow.

Algernon Morton married Agnes Gould Baxter in Scotland. Her marriage and birth in 1899 is on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk which is a pay-per-view site. I hope this helps you.

Thank you very much.

Now I have to consider whether I am desperate for the certificate!!!!

 ;D

Well I have looked at the Scotlandspeople website - how the hell doe it work????

Cannot even access a search function, let alone work out how to buy 1 certificate.  Am I missing something or am I dim?

Hi
Thanks for all your help.

On Tues, I registered, bought 30 credits (!!!) used up twice the amount needed as I went to the record twice!!!  And am now left with I think around 19 credits.

But have ordered the marriage certificate (£12.00!!!).

It was a very confusing site once in and I did not realise that even though you viewed a record, you still had to pay to go back to that record again, what a con.

Surely this isn't correct?
I have no credits at all at the moment with Scotland's People.
However, I have just successfully viewed a record which I paid for in 2009. All the records I have previously viewed are marked 'paid' and I can view them as many times as I wish.

That doesn't seem right. £12 is for a certified copy. If the marriage is before 1937 (which IIRC it was when I looked) then you can just use credits to view the register entry.

I don't understand either.

I've just looked and could get it online/download for 5 credits if I wished.  Not sure why you're paying £12.

Plummiegirl - you should have clicked on View (5 credits) not 'Order'  -see attached

After viewing, you can then download to your computer.
