Hi Victor,

Cold Ashton just down the road from Marshfield.   I had the marriage from Cold Ashton PRs, I guess from Bristol record office in 2006.   Both Isaac and Margaret were from Cold Ashton, marriage by banns and witnesses were Matthew Strange and Robert Lewis.   Isaac and Margaret featured in the 1851 census under the name of Millinder.   Son William later farmed Folly Farm just to the south of the village and his second wife was Mary Fishlock from Marshfield.   Wouldn't it be embarrassing if it were the wrong Cold Ashton.   If you wish you can touch the middle icon below the photo of Wiltshire Woodland (taken in the woods above the car park on the A4 just west of Beckhampton roundabout) and look at the family on Welsh Connection.

I look forward to any information you may find on the Milliners.

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,
The microfiche record for Holy Trinity, Cold Ashton, 1734-1778 is unreadable. I have ordered the Parish Record (PR) to look at for next Tuesday.
Source: Glos Archives (GA) PFC 23 IN 1/4 1, Holy Trinity, Cold Ashton, Banns & Marriages:-
The Banns of Marriage between Isaac MILLINER, Bachelor, and Margaret WITTS, both of this parish, were duly published in the Church of Cold Aston on the three following Sundays. Nothing entered!
This marriage was solemnized between the parties the 20th of April 1812 by John BATCHELOR, Clerk.
Isaac MILLINER Mark X, Margate WITTS Mark X, Matthew STRANGE Mark X and Robert LEWIS (NB; Signs at marriages often).
I thought I'd look for any baptisms for their children post-marriage and only found the following:-
Source: GA, PFC 23 IN 1/3 1, Holy Trinity, Cold Ashton, Baptisms:-
25th December, Anne, dau of ? & Ann MILLINDER, a Labourer of Cold Aston. There were NO baptisms after this date. The father's name looked like Isaac but has been crossed out.
I will get back to you if I discover any further MILLINER entries if GA have retained the PR rather than hand it to Bristol Records Office.

Hi Victor,

That's great.   I had Isaac's marriage but was unsure of his wife's surname.   As far as I was aware they had at least 2 children, names gleaned from census.   Robert Milliner born about 1817 in Batheaston, he married but was childless.   William Milliner born about 1822 in Cold Ashton.   In 1851 census he was 29 living with his parents.   The 1871 census shows him living with his family at Woodwards Cottage, Cold Ashton, but place of birth given as Dyrham, Glos.   Our family is descended from him.

It would be wonderfuL if you could trace Isaac Milliner's and Margaret Witt's forbears and any children's baptisms.   I have son William's children's baptisms - with his first wife Elizabeth - Reuben 1846 and Emma 1848, - with his second wife Mary - Phillis 1856, Nun 1861 and Lot 1864.

Thanks again, Dave

Hi Dave,
I have now checked the Bristol & Avon Family History Society, Baptismal, Marriage & Burial Registers Collection, 1754-1837 and only found the earlier baptism I posted:-
Ann MILLINDER, daughter of Isaac & Sarah, baptised 25th December 1816, at Cold Ashton.
Let's see what transpires next Tuesday.

How odd, perhaps there were 2 Milliner families although I've not found any evidence of this.   It is confusing that the parents of Ann were Isaac and Sarah.

Hi Dave,
The only extra data I can add are the following MILLINER marriages:-
Isaac MILLINER married Hannah BOWAY, 16th August 1784, at Wapley & Codrington.
Jacob MILLINER married Mary TYLER, 13th October 1801, at Almondsbury.
Jacob MILLINER married Eleanor HALL, 8th February 1809, at Marshfield.
James MILLINER married Mary ROACH, 27th April 1808, at Iron Acton.

Thanks Victor, it looks as if the early Cold Ashton Milliners remain lost in the mists of time.

Good evening , I am trying to trace one of my relatives from the forest of dean. His name is Charles Hinton born around 1835. His father was Thomas Hinton. Did you Thomas Hinton have a son that was named Charles. I know Charles father was a labrour and Charles was married in Coleford, however I have been unable to find any birth records or records from the 1841 cenus.

Any help you could provide would be appreciated.
Cheers

Sally
