I've kept coming back to this inscription as well. Still not comfortable about some words, especially the words that are transcribed as 'conscious & unconscious' and 'clichees'. Also wonder if it was written more as jottings or musings rather than something written in a continuous flow of thought. Here's my suggestion:
This book is of interest because it
causes the reader to pause - think
about the ........ & ........., caused
of many of his actions - clichees
It will ...... taking things for granted
& other peoples opinions
This in itself the diary of a sad journey
Every detail of which I can depict & in
my heart I am relieved that you
are returned sane & sound
