Cherry and Rice in County Down Ballymaglaff dst

I unfortunately don't have any more information on those Cherrys, But recently through DNA on ancestry.co.uk I have found a link to a Moses and Hamilton Cherry who lived in Newtownards before heading off to America. They were of Scottish parents. I would recommend ancestry.co.uk and the use of DNA and the benefits of everyone doing it through the same site. I have been able to find lots of relatives through DNA. Unfortunately here in Ireland that's our best hope of finding more connections past the 1800's. Also it would very unfortunate that we are not connected somehow as Ballymaglaff is only 18 minute drive from Raffrey.

Was the father of James and William - James also?

"birth cert of Sarah and Arthur Thomson's daughter in Holytown Lanark it says parents married in Killalay"   is that meant to be Killyleagh not Killalay??

Hi Andy do you know if there are any old Church records for these areas  as I have never found any marriage records for my great great grandad James Cherry and Mary Rice if their son William was born about 1831 it would have been before this date Wish I knew what number William was in the 7 sons in all the births i've found the first son was always James and first daughter Mary except in this case where James my gt grandad was in 1843. Been looking for them since 2000.maybe strike gold one day  .Regards Josie

Try Familysearch.org - check out there catelogs.

I got Raffrey marriages-  1851
Killinchy - 1836
Boardmills - 1828

They have lots of churchs, you might get lucky!

All i know is that they were Presbyterian in Glasgow one of James sons married in the Congregational Church oanother  married in the Episcopal Church and the other in Gilnahirk parish church Josie

Another correction-

... my gt grandad's 1st marriage cert to Mary Jane McWhinney at that time 1869 he was living in East St Newtownards I got the cert from Dublin ...

The marriage was 1867 NOT 1869- James' age given as 25 so born c1842-

Ancestry online tree lists children of James Cherry & Mary Rice, etc. Only 5 sons & 4 daughters and places are a bit strangely written but worth having a look for details you can verify or rule out yourself.
Two other family trees also on Ancestry also contain some details which don't look likely.
