There were two marriages of a Donald McKenzie in New Zealand between 1861 and 1871, with one being just plain Donald McKenzie. This chap married a Janet Currie in 1866 and they had one child, Janet.

The reason I think this may be your man is that after the death of Donald in 1871, a Janet Mckenzie married in 1874 (I'm assuming this may have been his widow) to a Duncan McLean and had several children, one of whom was named Andrew McKenzie McLean.

To get any real confirming info you would probably have to get the death printout for the 1871 Donald McKenzie death (which will probably give his origins) and the marriage cert for Janet McKenzie to Duncan McLean.

Hope this helps,
Eliza.

Unfortunately little information at this time was captured for the registration for Births, Deaths & Marriages.

On the New Zealand BDM website go to "Data Collected". This sets out the information likely to be found on documents for the various years............

Minniehaha is right, I had forgotten about that. The names of the parents and place of origin were not recorded till a little later. What a shame.

Hi wianhall

The Donald McKENZIE (identified earlier in thread) died 1871 aged 32 years, was buried at the Waitati Cemetery, Otago.

The cemetery record gives his name as Donald MACKENZIE - and his age as 35 years.    Both of these "inconsistencies" may have to do with the cemetery's record keeping ??

He is alone in a plot and there are no others named MACKENZIE.

Unfortunately, a death record from 1871 (a "Printout" from NZ BDM), is not going to assist you much with positively identifying this man as your Donald from Clackmannanshire.   :(

A further search of Waitati Cemetery records > for McKENZIE > turned up about 8 burials.  It's difficult though to determine whether any of these people were connected to the Donald MacKENZIE or McKENZIE who died in 1871.

Here's the link to the cemetery records >
