Billingon KA ( 1873-1944)
« on: Thursday 09 January 14 12:16 GMT (UK) »
BILLINGTON Kate Adelaide
(Nee Simpson)

Birth 05 Apr 1873 in 52 Walton Street, Hull, Yorkshire
Death 07 Jan 1944 in Hull, Yorkshire, England

Buried on 15 Jan 1944. LKA 4 Henry's Terrace, Marmaduke Street. Informant of Death R A Brown. Buried: Western Cemetery Hull C395 38196

I am looking for help in finding any probate record or last will extracts.

Though the surname is BILLINGTON , I wonder if the middle name of 'Adelaide' may have been used on the records as the surname in error as so far I could not find anything.

I can see a Kate Billington, died 18 August 1945 in Kent?
Or an Adelaide Billington, died 15 March 1942 in Stoke-on-Trent?

No other likely candidates on the National Probate Calender!

Many thanks for looking.

Do you think it would follow that the probate was recorded in the county/probate district of death?

The 1945 one could be worth a further look - although you say she died in Kent - unless that was a mistake in location - mine definitely died in Hull. Otherwise could be worth a look. IS there an abbreviated record naming exec's etc.

the other - 1942 might be too early, unless its possible to register probate before a death. Sorry it is not an area I am familiar with if that seems silly.

Otherwise if there is an absence of probate how would she have dispersed her worldly goods and the family china etc? (Husband died in 1942)

Thanks again

Probate can never be granted before the death.

Lots of people do not leave Wills.
The china etc was probably distributed amongst family, or if there was no family just disposed of.
If there was any sort of estate that needed something 'official' before it would be released eg a Bank Account, and there was no Will, then Letters of Administration would have been applied for by the person sorting it out. But if that was the case, then there would be an entry to that effect in the Probate index.

Looks like she didnt leave a Will, nor was Administration needed.

Nothing unusual in that, I think most of us find that is the case with thge majority of our ancestors.

The Kate Billington who died in Kent was the wife of Charles Ernest George Billington for elimination purposes....As the 1911 census shows Kate's Husband as Walter you can rule this one out.
