any tips on searching for relatives that may have mistranscribed surnames, I tend to be missing out on a lot just because they have been mis transcribed, what kind of search terms should I enter when searching?

Less is better than more
When I found your Aitkens mistranscribed on the 1901 (previous post) I just used David b 1890 plus or minus 1yr
Yes - it threw up a lot of entries but with a surname beginning with A it wasn't a massive task
Use the wildcard search (eg) A*tk*n

As well as the use of wildcards naming other household members can often help.
Warks:Ashford;Cadby;Clarke;Clifford;Cooke Copage;Easthope;
Edmonds;Felton;Colledge;Lutwyche;Mander(s);May;Poole;Withers.
Staffs.Edmonds;Addison;Duffield;Webb;Fisher;Archer
Salop:Easthope,Eddowes,Hoorde,Oteley,Vernon,Talbot,De Neville.

India Kane;Felton;Cadby
London.Haysom.

As above with a specific place of birth sometimes works.
