Fanny Gilbert nee Green born 1859
« on: Monday 23 December 13 18:22 GMT (UK) »
My uncle and I are both descended from Charles Green (b. 1809) and Charlotte Livermore of Great Waltham, Essex, through their son Samuel, also known as John (b. 1843). We are currently researching Samuel's sister Fanny who was born in 1859 in Great Waltham. We have found that in 1878 she married Benjamin Gilbert in Milton, Kent which is where Samuel lived.

We have found her on the 1881 census but not on any subsequent census even though we have found Benjamin living in Sittingbourne as a lodger and described as married on later censuses. They had at least 2 children, Ellen (b. 1879) and George (b. 1881). Ellen in 1891 is living with Ben’s sister at Sheerness. In 1901 a servant in Bromley & 1911 a servant at Norwood. George in 1891 is living with Samuel Green’s in laws named Sarah Ganden described as a nurse child. We think he dies in 1899 at Milton aged 17.

Can anybody help us find out what happened to Fanny after 1881.

In the absence of any death reg - 2 possibilities

She went off with somebody else

She had a mental illness and is in an institution.  Census entries for many asylums only show initials so it can be difficult to trace people

Here is the 1891 ref for the Essex county lunatic asylum as an example
