Henry James COCHRANE & Mary WATSON - Bairnsdale region Victoria
« on: Thursday 19 December 13 09:10 GMT (UK) »
Tracing Henry James COCHRANE Born abt 1822 unknown whereabouts, died 10 Mar 1885 and buried in Bairnsdale cemetry in Victoria.

I have been able to find any records on his wife / partner Mary WATSON, listed as the mother of their eldest son John COCHRANE ( B. 1851 - D. 1927 Bairnsdale ) per his death record.

They had a second son Robert COCHRANE (B. 1853 - D. 1953 Bairnsdale ) who married, and is buried with my great grand aunt Elizabeth RICHARDSON ( B. 1861 Alston Cumberland England - D. 1918 East Bairnsdale ). Robert and his family moved to Richmond in Melbourne, around the WW1 years, like many rural families did, when times got tough.

Keen to find out and confirm where the Cochrane boys were born or lived, and obviously any info whatsoever re Mary Cochrane nee Watson.

Many Thanks

It appears Henry James died in 1884 not 1885.  Not unusual to find errors on headstones.

Perhaps there may be more information about him, his wife and chn on his death cert which you can purchase online [$20] and immediately download.

Information on death certificates is not always reliable.  This marriage information would have been given by Robert himself.  It would appear he was born in England.

Marriage
COCHRANE Robert born Sunderland
RICHARDSON Elizabeth born Northumberland.

Not finding very much about the family in my resources.  I suggest you have a browse through the digitised newspapers on TROVE.

Elizabeth's probate file is digitised on PROV.  Be patient when downloading the file.  Can be very slow at times.
http://prov.vic.gov.au/index_search?searchid=54

You will also see that John and Robert have files as well but you will either have to order and view their files in PROV reading rooms or order and pay to have the files copied if you are unable to visit.
