By the way, Happy New Year :)  Just a note further to my previous message.  I also chased up another George in the hope of locating Joseph's father and he was born 1769 which I also reckon is too close in age.  This George married Jane Thrift, b 1777, in 1804 in Hanworth and someone has added on the younger George born 1789 as their son.  I appreciate that it is very confusing and I should've checked DOBs first but, hey we're all human!

Thanks again to all who have tried to help.

Hopefully, Ann-Marie

Hi,
The George Jewett 1789 is (I believe) my ggg-grandfather.
I'm not sure who is father is but circumstantial evidence suggests it is William (b1765)
   I can't find a baptism record.

While trying to work out who George's family is I have been trying to patch together all of the Jewetts at the turn of the 19th century in the Feltham/Hanworth area.

Soooo, all of the names mentioned here are familiar and, yes, it is confusing as there seems to be just a few pieces of information available (on the net).

Why do Joseph and Elizabeth/Eliza have two daughters with the "same" names? Elizabeth and Eliza? Unless Eliza died as a baby...

Anyway, back to your original quest. Why is an Eliza from Feltham getting married in Hanover Sq, Westminster. It sounds a bit grand for someone with her background. Where do the censuses say she originated?

BTW, A* has some pages missing for Hanworth  :(

Dear Colin,

Well here we are again.  I am annmarie1254 from Ancestry and we tossed this issue about some time ago.  Please forgive me for not replying sooner but I have been ill.

Like you I have been searching for Juetts, Jewetts and Jewit/ts recently.  When I checked the Baptism records I have found that the Vicar has spelt their names Jewit or Jewitt even tho sometimes Ancestry have mistranscribed it as Jewett.  Starting with my 2xgreat grandmother Jemima Gooud 1832 Baptised in Feltham but resident in St Marylebone, who married James Hoare, I then go back to her parents John Gooud 1807, a gardener, and Eliza Juett 1808-1853.  Continuing up the Maternal line we have Eliza's parents Joseph Jewitt and Elizabeth, the Baptism clearly states.  Eliza was born 6th April and Baptised 11th October 1807 at St Dunstan with St Catherine Feltham , Middlesex.
So, if we accept that Joseph Jewitt/Juett 1771 is the father of Eliza and the husband of Eliza/beth and that, as stated on his second marriage, his father is George then that takes us back a further generation.

As for why Eliza has moved from Feltham to Hanover Square, I think that John Gooud was working as a Gardener in the Market Gardens.  It is not altogether remarkable that she got a job in service in London.  While John seems to have moved about presumably looking for work, they were resident in Marylebone for Jemima's (eldest daughter) birth.

Hope that this doesn't raise too many problems.  By the way what do BTW,A* mean?

All the best Ann-Marie

It's short for "By The Way, Ancestry...."

I don't know why people do but many people shorten the Ancestry name

Hi Ann-Marie,

Aaah, yes, I remember now....it was only a few months ago!

I guess it was just my assumption that the bride would get married in her home town.

I looked at CiderDrinkers comment and I think that he might be on to something.
It appears that Feltham didn't keep records between 1753 and mid-1771 so, as Joseph could have been born at the start of 1771 then we have his younger siblings.
Baptism records exist and they name both parents. The mother being Sarah.

Now, there was a marriage between the following:
Name:    George Juatt
Spouse Name:    Sarah Wade
Record Type:    Banns
Event Date:    18 Jan 1761
Parish:    Bedfont St Mary the Virgin

I think that George would be about 22 at the age of marrying as there is a baptism for a George in Feltham.

  George Jewet
Baptism Date:    16 Dec 1739
Parish:    St Dunstan with St Catherine, Feltham
County:    Middlesex
Borough:    Hounslow
Parent(s):    William Jewet,
Elizabeth Jewet

And, that is as far as I can get....

  Regards,
     Colin

p.s. my previous post was my first post on here and saw that someone else used A* so thought it might be a censored word..

Hi Colin,

Thanks for that, I too had found George and his wife Sarah Wade.  Going back I have parents of George (my 5th Great Grandfather) as William Juett 1712 - 1779 Feltham and Elizabeth.  They got married about 1730 in Feltham.  Their children were:-
John 1732 - 1775, James 1734-1799, Thomas 1734, James 1737, George 1739, Martha 1748.

That's about it for now,

Regards, Ann-Marie
