Hello,
The New South Wales 1888 death certificate of my g-g grandmother, Margaret O'Neill (nee Fahey) born 1815, who came to Australia in 1838, states her father Patrick Fahy (Fahey?) was a schoolmaster probably near Kilrush in County Clare. I have found the reference to the 1824 Irish Education Survey which lists a Patrick Fahy, master of a school at Carnacalla. I also notice that the road from Kilrush to Carnacalla is called Fahy's Road. The records indicate that my Patrick Fahy was married to Catherine Kelty.
I am just wondering whether anyone knows more about this family or the Fahy families of Carnacalla/Kilrush?
In the shipping records, Margaret says she was a native of Kilrush although the death certificate says she was from Mount Pleasant. She was a housekeeper so perhaps she worked at Mount Pleasant House in Clarefield. Does anyone know more about Mount Pleasant House which I believe was occupied by magistrate Joseph Cox, eg approx when it was built?
Thanks
Alan, Sydney Australia
