Chorley Cemetery records have recently been transcribed by the local branch of the LFH&HS. I understand that if you go direct to the cemetery, they are supposed to charge a fee for records, though when I called at the office there they happily printed the details of my family's plot.

With a date so late, cremation is also quite possible. The two places most likely are Overdale at Bolton and Pleasington at Blackburn. Carleton at Blackpool is also possible.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

If his wife's name was Elsie - 3 children were born to the marriage - including twins who died in infancy.

The eldest child was only born in 1951 and appears to have married and is still living in Lancashire.

Perhaps contact with that relative will give you the info re: burial/cremation

Lisa -- Andrew is correct in saying that Lancs Family History and Heraldry Society have details of the burials at Chorley.

I don't know where you live -- but if it is local to Lancs -- the Society has 2 Research Centres -- one at Chorley and one at Oswaldtwistle, both open to the public -- where you could access these details.

See the Society's website for the opening times of their Research Centres.

Lisa,

I see that you have also listed John Vincent McManus, who died in 1983, on a separate thread of potential 'Salford burials' --- although the start up message on this thread says he died in Chorley.

Salford and Chorley are not particularly near to one another -- so that is rather confusing --- or have you discovered new information?
