Can't Find St Margaret's Whalley Range, Manchester on Lancs OPC, Help!
« on: Monday 09 December 13 23:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Trying to locate 3 marriages for family members. Found all 3 marrying at St Margaret's, Whalley Range on the LancsBMD website, so thought ok, I'll check on Lancs OPC site for the details. Can't find the church on there at all! ::) Which area would it come under?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

I would have thought Manchester.  Perhaps there are no transcriptions on Lancs OPC for that church
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Have you tried Ancestry? Most of the Manchester records are on there.

Hi CaroleW,

Many thanks for your reply, very much appreciated.

Manchester was what I thought, but have checked that & several other areas as well. I thought that there should have at least been a listing of the church & if no transcriptions as yet then no link. However it doesn't appear at all. Very frustrating!

Hi Ray T, many thanks for your reply as well, also appreciated. Unfortunately I don't have an Ancestry membership at present.

Kind regards

Hi Heather,

Many thanks indeed for your reply & the link to the church, very much appreciated.

Have a had a look at the link - lovely old church, larger than I was expecting for some reason, don't know why! :) Perhaps I'll have to contact them direct by email as shown on the link regarding their records.

Many thanks again.

Kind regards

Hi Alpinecottage,

Many thanks indeed for your reply, very much appreciated.

Was aware of ancestry library edition at local libraries & have used it before, appreciate the reminder of it though.

Have been ill during the past week (sickness bug etc!) hence using online means to find the marriages mentioned. Now fully recovered I shall be going to the library sometime this week.

Also surprised that Whalley Range doesn't appear to be on Lancs OPC website when all other areas of Manchester & Salford appear to be! :)

Many thanks again.

Kind regards

David

Hi

The link below has information re St Margarets records at Manchester Library. The records after these dates may still be at the Church.

http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/448/archives_and_local_history/464/church_register_list/39

The church does not appear in the list on Ancestry but it is still worth checking in case there is an error in the list.

As with Cheshire there will could be some records that are not online as the particular church(s) may have refused permission.
