« on: Monday 09 December 13 16:02 GMT (UK) »
I have a Mary married to Stephen Powell and he comes from Llantwit Vardre on the census it says she comes from Buffalo, Wales.   Have never heard of this place.  Can anyone help.   Her first child was born in 1899 in Cardiff was Emily Jane Powell.   Cant find a marriage because I dont know where Buffalo is.
Thanks.

Her first child was born in 1899 in Cardiff was Emily Jane Powell.

Emily must have been born c1889-90 (rather than 1899) I think, as she's 11 in 1901. Perhaps as Davies if she predated the marriage?

Emily's younger brother William Silvanus b c 1890 Cardiff may be helpful given his unusual middle name.

Added - yes: William Silvanus Davies born Dec qtr 1890 Cardiff looks promising.

There's an interesting family in Cornwall in 1891, at RG 12 / 1808/ 126/ 10
The head of household is Henry Gay aged 51.

Also in the household are his daughter Mary A Davies, a widow aged 26 from Pembroke Dock, and her two children, both born in Cardiff:  Mary  :-\ j. aged 1 and William S. aged 6 months.
