There is no 1841 for an Ann Brownlee father David

This is the only entry matching her birthyear - living in Glasgow but not born Lanark.  Only Jean jnr is shown as b Lanark.  1841 does not show relationships or actual birthplaces

Mrs Margaret Brownlee 60
Jean  25
Mary 20
Grace 15
Christian 14
Elizabeth 13
Ann  12
Jean 7

The Perthsire 1841 has an 11yr old William McAra b Perthsire working as a farm servant.  No others of that name in household.  Still a farm servant in 1851 born Madderty Perthshire

Many thanks for the lookup. Both William and his father John were artificers, I am guessing William would have had to apprentice and unlikely he would have been a farm servant. Tradeston had a large metal working industry and I think he would have worked in it. Saying all that I have been unable to find any record of William and Ann prior to 1855.
thanks again for your generosity of time, I am very appreciative.

Looking at the 1841 and 1851 for a John McAra has no results for his occupation but does show that the bulk of the entries were in the Perthshire area

Could this be the Brownlee family in 1841?

Census for Wellington Street, Gorbals parish, Glasgow.
Mrs Margaret Brownlee, aged 60.
Jean Brownlee aged 25.
Mary Brownlee aged 20.
Grace Brownlee aged 15.
Christian Brownlee aged 14 (Female).
Elizabeth Brownlee aged 13.
Ann Brownlee aged 12.
Jean Brownlee aged 7.

don't know why there are 2 Jeans'.
Margaret seems to be head of house, they are all born out of the county apart from Jean aged 7.
Jean, Mary, Grace, Christian and Elizabeth all have the occupation Cotton winders. Ann is a cotton carder.
It could be that David is dead by this time.

Perthshire is FULL of McCara's. I lived there for 5 years and met loads of them.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

Hi mjmcara,

Not sure that this is your Ann, but given that they married in England, on the 1851 there is an Ann BROWNLIE aged 29, Laundress, born Scotland living in Surrey. On the 1841 there is an Ann BROWLEY aged 19, Female Servant living in Lincolnshire. Perhaps someone with access to the census records could look them up for you.

Hello mjmcara,

Given all your other posts on various other forums, could you tell us if you have eliminated the 1851 William McAree, aged 21 soldier private 33 Regiment born Sterling Scotland and the 1851 William McAra age 21 hammerman(Iron) born Midlothian. It could save alot of research by others if we are not doubling up on searching.

Hi, many thanks for the reply. I have not been able to eliminate or confirm either. The soldier is possible but of the two, because of the occupation the hammerman is more likely.

Unfortunately I have not been able to connect either William to "William McAra artificer" at the Royal Arsenal 1855 Plumstead Kent or Ann  Brownlee who listed her place of residence at the time of her marriage 1855 as Tradeston Glasgow.

Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to help me connect the dots
