Seattle Washington
« on: Sunday 08 December 13 12:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi there; can any body help?

I have just been e-mailed a copy of an article from the Seattle Daily Times of 30th April 1924. This article records the death of a Charles Audley who was living at 4263 Cloverdale Street. The newspaper article states that he is survived by two nephews a H. A. Audley of 328 16th Ave N and F.A. Audley of the Glencairn Hotel.

I know Charles's ancestry back to his great grandfather but his two nephews are completely new to me. Can anybody tell me who the parents of the nephews were?

I am only aware of Charles Audley having one brother and he lived in Minnesota.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help

Regards
Brian Audley

Hi Rosie,

{F10} DEBORAH AUDLEY born September 1861, in Ireland according to the US Federal Census information. This does not appear possible when compared to the date of Birth of her Brother {F28} Samuel. She emigrated to the USA, in 1882 or 1884 according to US Federal Census information. It is speculated that she emigrated to America with her brother {F28} arriving in New York, on the ‘SS City of Paris’ on the 26th March 1883. On the passenger list she is stated to be 24 years of age, which indicates she would have been Born in September 1859. Frank A. Audley b.c. 1877 Michigan

Many citations for these men in Seattle newspapers.  They were prominent businessmen (F.A. was a realtor)

Hi rosie17 and rransom,

That is a good start many thanks for your help.
I am based in England and run the website www.audleyfamilyhistory.com A contributor in Amsterdam Holland e-mailed me the newspaper article with the comment 'I think the two nephews in the article are not his nephews but were two people after his inheritance.

The information you have given me starts to confirm this.

Looks like the H A s/b H R for Henry Robert.

If this is the same family as mentioned above, the father married Matilda Lewis as Robert ?H in Michigan in 1870. He had apparently died by the 1880 census.

1880 census has a widowed Matilda still in Michigan with children Henry 9, Thomas 5, Frank 3, and Lida 1. Familysearch also has a death record for another son ... I don't remember particulars off hand.
