Dear Ian, about 30 years ago my late father made contact with a couple,  (Bill and Alice Ellis of Broad Clyst, now deceased), who had researched the descendants of Thomas Ellis of Broadhembury.  Thomas Ellis (c 1525 - 90) married Collis Salter (ca 1525 - 1600) in Broadhembury in 1546.  Down to the late 18th century was one Matthew Ellis (1789 - 1834) of Stafford Barton Farm, who married Grace Ackland (1795-1870) in 1819.  Their second son, William Ackland Ellis (1824 - 64) left Broadhembury and established a confectionery business in Castle Cary.  He married Anna Maria Osmond (1826 - 66) in 1854 in Walcot, Bath and his first son, William Charles Osmond Ellis (1855 - 1927) was my great grand father.  Should you be interested in the detailed family tree down from Thomas And Collis Ellis, I can pass this to you.  Regards, John Ellis

Hello John
This will probably be too late to find you since your post is now three years old but I'll try anyway! I'm researching my own branch of the Ellis family and have so far been able to get back as far as Matthew Ellis (1789 - 1834, my great-great-grandfather) and Grace Ackland (1795-1870) both of whom you mentioned in your post. You offered to send to Ian, the original poster, a detailed family tree down from Thomas and Collis Ellis (née Salter). Should you be able to send me a copy of this, I should be eternally grateful.
I look forward very much to hearing from you.
Cheers
Charlie Ellis (b. Matthew Charles Ellis 1954)

Hello Ian
This will probably be too late to find you since your post is now eight years old but I'll try anyway! Ian offered to send you a detailed family tree down from Thomas and Collis Ellis (née Salter). Should he have done that, and should you still have it, I should be eternally grateful if you could send me a copy. I have also asked John.
I should also be very interested in any information you can give me either up or down from Matthew Ellis.
I look forward very much to hearing from you.
Cheers
Charlie Ellis (b. Matthew Charles Ellis 1954)

Charlie, I'm not quite sure if my last response wriggled out into the ether. I can send you a line of descent from Thomas Ellis and Collis Salter through Matthew Ellis. Please contact me by email - I am at * I am also in the process of writing a family history, some of which could be of interest to you. Regards, John Ellis

Hi John
I'm delighted to hear from you and would love to receive this information.
As you will have seen, we need to use the Personal Message system to exchange email addresses BUT as a new member, I can't use it until I've made four posts and you can't use it to write to me either!
I've dropped a line to the moderator to ask how we can get round this...
Cheers
Charlie
