trying to connect the puzzle pieces
« on: Saturday 30 November 13 19:36 GMT (UK) »
i am hoping please that someone can help with a resolution and connection please.
my gg grandparents  James and Sarah Brown [neeClayton] had four children, but the one that i am interested in is RachelBrown.
Rachel married John Clayton from Derbyshire.
Is this John Clayton related to Sarah Clayton at all.
If so how please it is very confusing indeed as you can see.
There was also an Ann Clayton who married a William Shirt where  does she fit into the equation
Were her and Sarah sisters?
Rachel Brown was born in 1879-1952.
The Brown family was from Pott Shrigley,Cheshire.
JohnClaytons parents were John and Edna Clayton from Poynton,Cheshire i am lead to believe.
Please any help to solve this puzzle would be greatly appreciated
Thank you so much

John Clayton born Poynton c1877, occupation labourer according to the census record after their marriage. However a tree on ancestry has him born 1874 Poynton and parents John and Edna but they are not showing a marriage cert as source of this info just census and death records from FreeBMD

There are quite a few births of a John Clayton 1874 - 1877 in Cheshire.  It is possible that John knocked a couple of years off his age to bring him closer to Rachel's age.
There is also a John Clayton born 1877 at Poynton living in Blackpool in 1901 but he is a police constable.  Unlikely he would leave that job to go back to Cheshire to become a labourer?

so this is John with him family in Poynton in 1881

John Clayton    45 b Prestbury, coal miner
Edna Clayton    41
Alice M.M. Clayton    18
Joseph Clayton    17
Sarah Clayton    16
William Clayton    12
Hannah M. Clayton    9
John Clayton    7
Thos.A. Clayton    5
Edna Clayton    3
Harry Clayton    1
Lavinia Clayton

In other censuses John senior gives his place of birth as Adlington, Cheshire

this looks to be John snr and parents in Poynton in 1851
John Clayton    32
Sarah Clayton    32
John Barber Clayton    14
Martha Clayton    7
Noah Clayton    11 Mo

Ref  RG11, 3487, 101, 32

Looking for a Sarah Clayton, later to become Brown, whose birthplace seems to mainly say  Poynton,  there are two about the same age in the area, daughters of Ralph and Ellen and David and Phoebe.

Right - shes david's daughter. See https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F3XC-J63

I would say there is a possiblity John jnr and Rachel are related - possibly their grandfathers (John & David) are brothers, but there are a few Claytons in the area and some more detailed searching is needed.

David Clayton b c1811, Adlington

Baptism https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F3B3-G77
Son of Ralph and Elizabeth

I can see that Ralph & Elizabeth also had a John, but he was born c1813, rather than the 1819 suggested by the 1851 census. John Barber Clayton and his siblings are scattered about after 1861, and I cannot find his parents to see if the 1851 entry for his age is out
