marriage dates
« on: Thursday 28 November 13 08:19 GMT (UK) »
Alfred Charlton married Ann Pratt, registration district Blaby in 1870, after she died he married Sarah Ann Storer 1879, again registration district Blaby. I brought in the last 12 months copies of Blaby and Enderby parish records, but there is no sign of these marriages. Can any help me with these dates or where the weddings took place please.

It is highly likely that these marriages took place in register offices if there is no sign on the parish records.

You may have to purchase the certs from the GRO for £9-25 to find out for sure.

Just a thought - on the 1871 census return Ann is said to have been born in Cosby.  Could they have got married at St Michale and all Saints?  :-\

The second marriage is a little different as both are said to be born in Enderby.

Or, thirdly - could they have been non-conformists?

If all else fails, then you may have to purchase the marriage certificates.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

I would imagine the registration district of Blaby covers many more parishes than just Blaby and Enderby

Here we are
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/blaby.html

32 parishes in that Reg district.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

I was going to say the same thing as Lizdb. The modern district of Blaby is pretty large and today covers suburbs of the city of Leicester, albeit just outside the city admin. border and into the admin district of the county. In the late 1800s those suburbs would have been villages, far smaller but with numerous parish churches. You would have to purchase PR/BTs for places like Braunstone, Narborough and other substantial villages, at substantial cost, or visit the RO at Wigston, unless someone here already has them and can look them up for you.

So that is 4 or the 32 parishes you now have prs for

28 to go!

Plus, as has been said, they may have taken place in non conformist churches or registry offices.

I really think your best way forward is to visit the record office where you can look at the pr's for every parish (hoping the marriages took place in C of E churches) or buy a copy of the marriage cert(s)!

It's got to be cheaper to pay £9-25 to buy the cert surely?
