1911 Glossop, Parkfield House
« on: Wednesday 27 November 13 18:38 GMT (UK) »
Is it possible to do an address search 1911 census for Parkfeild House, Glossop to see who's living there.  It's a longshot but the wife of a family member lists that address as her home address in the UK in 1946 from India.  Yes I know years later, she married in India and may have been born in India too, and Parkfield House sounds like it might have been grand enough to have other family connections.  cheers.

Hi.

You can do an address search on the 1911 using FindMyPast. I'm afraid though that we can't do it on RC due to copyright.

That copyrights still going is it.  I went back to do the search at FindMyPast but couldn't remember my password, so I clicked forgotten password and they sent a link which doesn't work, it includes a token number about a mile long.  I tried cut and paste etc and all I got was the home page again telling me to sign in, so round and rouns in circles.  Thank's anyway.  I complained to FindMyPast

FindMyPast is not ideal for place searches.  You're far better using A...y.  Most libraries seem to have it these days.

How do you do an address search on Ancestry - do you need to use the old search? I know FindMyPast gives the option of a person or address search, which I've always found useful.

Now I have a problem as I decided to take out a sub to FindMyPast a year or so ago, but basically if you go onto the first page of the Census you want and don't fill in your details, you should be able to click and bring up the towns you need, then click on them.  Sorry I can't be more helpful than that.  Someone else will give you much better directions at doing it.  But you can then look through the Census street by street, which is very useful.

thanks derby girl...I did that on a few census years ago, but they were rural areas so only a few pages to scan, Glossop might throw up many more.  It is a good way to find people you aare almost certain are there yet they don't show in the census, I found my Beach family as Bach.
